Dental Implants: A Permanent Solution for Missing Teeth

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone beneath your gum line. They act as artificial tooth roots, providing a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth that match your natural teeth.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Most adults with good general health are candidates for dental implants. You need healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. Patients with controlled diabetes or heart disease can also qualify after proper evaluation.

The Implant Procedure

The procedure involves placing the titanium post, allowing several months for osseointegration (the implant fusing with the bone), then attaching an abutment and finally the crown. The entire process takes three to six months.

Benefits Over Dentures

Unlike dentures, implants do not slip or shift. They look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. They also prevent bone loss that occurs when teeth are missing and do not require alteration of adjacent teeth.

Long-Term Results

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. Brush and floss around them just like natural teeth. Visit your dentist regularly. The crown may need replacement after 10 to 15 years of wear.
